So today we found the real Kiholo Bay. We turned south instead of north and ended up at Black Sand and Gravel Cove last time. This time we parked on the highway at Mile 81 and walked for a half hour into the bay. On the way we saw lots of wild goats feeding off the sparse growth. When we got to the beach we headed north (it's amazing what you can do when read read directions carefully). We walked for about 15 minutes when we met Willy, a local who lives in Captain Cook, who took our picture for us and then told us we had to keep going until we got to the pools where the fresh water mixed with the salt. So we continued on for another 20 minutes over a very interesting lava formation that happened around the 1860s. It is a beautiful place. The fresh water mixing with the salt water creates a milky aqua colour with really clear water right at the shore so you can see lots of the topical fish. And you can see turtles everywhere. At first we thought we were looking at rocks but the turtles turn very white when they climb up on the shore and dry off. All and all we hiked for over two hours with the hike back to the highway being the hardest because of the heat.
Before we hiked back we walked south from where the trail meets the beach in order to see the Bali House which was built for Paul Mitchell, the hair products guy, in Bali, disassembled, brought it to Hawaii and reassembled gain. The problem was it is a lot less humid here and the wood they had used cracked and dried and caused a lot of issues...it still looks pretty good. A little farther along is the Yellow House, a mansion built by the guy who invented the pacemaker. Nice.
Once we got to the the highway we booted it to the Seafood Bar in Kawaihae for a cold drink and a Happy Hour meal. We finished the day with a sunset viewed back at our place.
Tough day, but someone has to do it.

You both are looking so tanned, already! I am loving following your days. Sorry if I have commented twice. It looked like something went wrong when I tried commenting before.
