Little House on the Beach

We did  a lot of driving looking for an open beach.  Kua Bay...closed.  Beach 69....closed.  Hapuna, Mauna Kea....closed.  Still a high surf warning for the west side of the island.  We saw some of the damage at Hapuna, quite a mess.  So we walked into Mauna Lani to walk along the beach walkway but it was closed too.  But there was a little beach that looked pretty calm......for awhile.  We were both in loungers reading books when we heard the guy near us yell, "Watch out!", but not soon enough for us.  We were totally swamped by a couple of waves.  Luckily Mary was able to rescue the backpack that had all our valuables and I retrieved my sandal that had been washed out to the bay.

So we figured nature had won and we went back to our place, barbecued steaks and made a mac/basil pesto pasta along with a glass of wine and the sunset.  We finished with a dessert of fresh pineapple and macadamia nuts.

Tomorrow we're off to the east side to see if we can get a look at the volcano and some waterfalls.  We're staying a night in Pahoa, this is the community that has been most affected by the recent lava flow.  Should be interesting.
Kiholo Bay

Our new retirement home...few amenities but great views!
