After our long day of travel we arrived at the Kona airport around 10:00 pm. We picked up our car at Enterprise and, once again Hawaiian car renters do not know what a mid-size car is. We were told we would get a car about the size of a Toyota Corolla and when we picked it up it was a Buick Encore. Last year when we were promised a similar sized car it was a Dodge Charger. Oh, well, they get us where we need to go but just with a bit more gas.
We are staying in a suite attached to a house in the residential area of Waikoloa Village. We met the owners today, Jennifer and Tom. We even needed Tom to come in and remove the kitchen sink plug that Mary jammed in the drain by putting it in upside down. It did allow us to get to know the owners early in our stay.
Later we put some time in at a beautiful beach at Kua Bay. There were some pretty big waves crashing in creating a lot of undertow...I got a bit of a workout getting back into the beach. The temperature was about 80 degrees.
Later we found a bar down at the marina north of Kona called Harbour House. The 3 dollar schooners of beer drew us in. From there we hit Walmart and Target in an attempt to pick up some groceries to stock us up....we actually did a better job of stocking up on cheap wine...$4 bottle of Pino Grigio!
We finished off the day by sitting back and listening to John Keawe(key-AH-bay)performing at the King's Shops in Waikoloa. He has become a regular part of our visits to the Big Island. He is a slack key guitar player from Hawi.
