Tennis, Tennis, Tennis

We made our way to the Madrid Mutua Open at the Caja Magica. The metro in Madrid seems to be very easy to use and very clean. Three changes and 45 minutes later we were at the venue...close, anyways, just a 10 minute walk. We were assisted in our directions by Allan and Marilyn, a couple from England. The security wouldn't let us in for an hour so we went off with Kevin and Diane, another British couple, for a cup of coffee.
When we finally got in we were able to see a lot of the top players. We started with Sharapova, did a browse of some of the outside and practice courts, where we saw our only Canadian presence in the form of Daniel Nestor, and then watched the final set of Serena's annihilation of Kirilenko. We watched one set of Berdych and Anderson, it ended in a tiebreaker win for Berdych, and then Nadel's match against Youhzny and Federer's 3 set loss to Nishikori. We finished the day off with an excellent 3 setter between Tommy Haas and David Ferrer which Ferrer won. Mary had a difficult time with this one because they are two of her favourites and she had to hate one of them.

On to museums tomorrow. Hoping to see Picasso's Guernica.
