Guernica and the Big Heads

Off on the metro again after a bit of a sleep in. We got off at the Plaza del Sol, the largest downtown centre. Mary wanted to find the nearest Tourist Information Office and we must have looked lost, I guess standing in a busy square huddled over a map will give that impression, because an elderly gentleman came up to us and started rattling off in Spanish to us trying to help u out. Just like Ireland, it's great how helpful people want to be, unlike Ireland, I can't understand what they're saying. But Mary got enough words and we were able to find the office.
From there we walked through town and found the Reina Sofia Museum, which houses Piasso's Guernica. Much like Mona Lisa at the Louvre, a large crowd was assembled around this mural. It's an amazing piece and something I really wanted to do on this trip.
From there we wandered around checking out the train station and getting some drink and food. We then waited around downtown at the Plaza de la Villa for the Parade of the Big Heads, the opening celebration of the San Isidro Festival. We waited quite awhile with not much happening and few people waiting for the parade. Finally we saw the Big Heads dancing through the streets along with all the people following and watching. We trailed along behind the procession to the plaza and then went off for a bit more food and drink and then the metro back to our hotel.

Our last day in Madrid will be the Prado Museum and the royal palace.
