Once we got over our confusion of where to catch the bus we were off for Nimes. An hour later we were walking to the arena, one of the best preserved piece of Roman architecture still standing. We took the guided audio tour and learned a lot about the building, the gladiators and the bull fighting.
We had lunch at a restaurant and patisserie suggested by Rick Steves (of course), La Courtois Cafe in the Place Marche. After lunch we hiked to Le Maison Carree, comparable to the Pantheon in Rome as one of the most complete buildings surviving from the Roman Empire. Our final trip was another hike through the Jardines de la Fontaine and up to the Tour Magne and then back down to the Temple of Diana....those Romans did get around.
Bussed back and finished the day with a baguette, fromage et vin.
Bon nuit.
