Cork

First of all, an apology to Danny Mikey. I have not been able to get your video loaded onto my blog, sorry. I've been trying for a couple of days but I think it's a bit to long. I will continue to try to get it uploaded as it is great. Take care, thanks again for the great evening.

From Doolin we caught a coach to Limerick and then transferred onto the bus to Cork. We actually found our B & B quickly where we met Dolores and John, two very lovely people. Dolores took us right out to the backyard for tea, coffee and snacks. She gave us a quick rundown of things to do in and around Cork. Our first night we wandered for a bit and then went to Clancy's bar for dinner.

A first full day we bussed to Kinsale where we walked up to Charles Fort, a star fort build in the 1500s. It was a great walk with excellent views from the fort's walls. Back in town we ate at Fishy Fishy Cafe where we had their famous seafood chowder and a heaping plate of mussels.

Back in Cork, at the suggestion Mary got at a local music store, we found the Corner House Pub where we found a trad music session happening. Sessions are where musicians, both local or visiting, meet at a pub and play music. We found a couple of stools and I went up to the bar to a couple of pints. We I got back Mary awas scrambling to find another stool as she was sitting on this fellows stool and he was giving her bait of a hard time in a humorous way. Turns out this had been the second stool he'd lost to a woman when he had got up for some reason and could accept losing one to a woman but enough was enough. So, we got talking to him while listening to the music and it seemed like a lot of people in the pub knew Danny Mikey. So during one of the session breaks Someone called out "Let's hear a song from Danny." and all of a sudden this fellow we'd been chatting with started singing where he sat with this great voice. After the song we learned a bit more about Danny Mikey and I was able to record the second song he sang later in the evening...the camera work isn't the greatest because I think I had visited the bar a few times by the point of the recording. I got permission to put his song on my blog and if you get to the site, Danny, I hope you enjoy it. Thanks for the evening. I also recorded some of the session but I'll load this up on the next blog.

Today we had some jobs to do....laundry, post office and hair. After the chores we bussed off to Midleton to the Jameson distillery. We did the tour and then Mary and I were both chosen for the taste test with shots of Johnny Walker, Jack Daniels and, of course, Jameson's. It was a great day for drinking whiskey as it was a cold and very wet day. I think we've had the Irish summer already.

We continue to meet interesting people on our travels. Today we spent time with Molly from Minnesota and Verina from Munich, two young travelers that shared the Irish whiskey tasting in the rain with us.

We're having a quiet, recouping kind of night and then hopefully off to Blarney Castle tomorrow.
Hope all is well.
