Let It Bled!

Yesterday was a 12 hour day! I think I'm getting too old for this. We decided to do a day trip to Lake Bled. Upon hearing this, Jasmine, the owner of the place we're staying, insisted on giving me a warmer jacket. ("And maybe you can buy some shoes there." As she looked down at my sandals.) She also drove us to our bus stop, she's a very lovely lady.
Safely on our bus, we headed for Lake Bled. The scenery along the way was beautiful with the snow capped mountains of the Julian Alps. We arrived about an hour later, greeted with blue skies and broad vistas, and cold temperatures. We decided to walk the trail around the lake with a couple of detours and one very steep and long detour to Blejski (Bled Castle). As we proceeded on our walk more and more clouds started to fill the sky accompanied by a cold wind. By the time we reached the lookout at the castle it was snowing. It still did not take away from the great views and sights of the castle. On the way down we visited St. Martin's Church and then found a place to eat, Pizzeria Ruzstica. One last thing we wanted to do was get to the island of the lake where the Church of the Assumption is found. By this time the skies had mostly cleared again (typical April) and our great views were back as were the swans.
We stopped for a warm drink and the special dessert of Lake Bled, the Bled Cremesnitte (cream cake).

We were told the bus back to Ljubljana came on every half hour (by a number of people), so we were at the bus stop at 6:15....45 minutes later a couple showed up and told us the 6:30 had been cancelled and the next one would come at 7:30. So after an hour and a quarter we were on the bus getting some great mountain sunset views and a relatively quick transfer got us back to Dvor Tacen.
