A Hard Night's Day

Jan. 3, 2017
We had an interesting second night as a party was happening somewhere near us. It started up around 10:00 and continued well into the early morning hours. Needless to say we had a slow morning and just as we got ready to go to the beach the skies opened, the wind blew and the rain came down. Off came the beach gear and we went back to the city to visit the Kura Hulanda Museum. This museum traces the history of slavery from Slavs being taken by Russians then on to Western Africa, South America, the Caribbean and on to the U.S.

It does a good job of showing what drove the slavery business and the atrocities that went along with it.

After the museum we went shopping for beach gear and strolled around taking in the sites of the city. Today was much less crowded than the previous one because it was a non cruise ship day.

We met this guy on our way to the Kura Hulande Museum in Willemstad. For a dollar he let you take a picture and he would make up a song about you once he knew where you were from. He was also showing us faces in the wall across the inlet at Punda: E.T., E.T.'s ugly girlfriend, and Michael Jackson, before and after his nose job.

After our strolling we stopped for a cheese fondue at The Cheesery, very Dutch. We returned to our place for some wine time around the pool and then had an early night in an attempt to find some of that lost sleep.
