Lisboa. We came, we saw....we drank ginjinha....and port ....and sangria...

Took the train down to Lisbon and arrived fairly early. Took the metro in and found our little place after awhile and only going in to one wrong building. When I say little, when talking about our roomette, I mean both small and short, as we're in an attic room. After banging my head twice, I've taken towalking with my head way down, something like Gulliver. Mary, being a Lilliputian, is having no problems. The only thing big about this place is the length of the staircase to our room....4 steep, narrow flights and a guy with two heavy suitcases....the makings of a heart attack.

Arriving in Lisbon was a bit overwhelming. The weather had changed with wind and rain and we were having trouble figuring the city out. We did a lot of rambling and finally found our way into the narrow streets of the Alfama district and our feelings about Lisbon improved. This is one big party neighbourhood. It's pretty wild on a Friday night! We found a little Fado restaurant and had a great meal of bachalau with sangria. The Fado was good. There were five different singers during the night ranging in ages from 80 to 13. We were right up front with the guitar players so of course by the end of the night Mary was sloshing her port and hugging the singers as they thanked her for coming and tried to sell their CDs. I especially liked the little old guy, he was so expressive. I'll try to attach a video of one of his songs. Of course this night was the night I forgot to bring my extra battery for my camera.

Adeus, from Lisboa.
