Hawaiian Swing

I'm getting pretty lazy with the blog.

On Friday we went looking for some beach time so we went down to Beach 69.  On the way there we saw a lot of whale action, including some breaches.  The surf is back up a bit so we did a lot of sitting and reading....life is tough.  Later we went up to Hapuna Beach to try out the boogie board but the rip tide was causing some problems....a tough day at the beach.

For dinner we went to Minnie's in Kapa'au with Kelly and Jill and another couple, Denny and Veronica.  Dinner was great!  We had the fresh ahi with scallops.  After dinner we went over to Kelly and Jill's place to finish our cribbage challenge.  It was hotly contested with Mary and Kelly finally winning in a tightly contested final game.

On Saturday we first checked out the market in Hawi and got some pumpkin and cream cheese bread, which we have heard is very good.  Next we headed south, below Kona.  We eventually got to the bay where Captain Cook's memorial was erected.  After this we drove back to Keauhou to visit our old stomping grounds.  We stopped at the beach that was near the resort we use to stay at but there were far too many kids!  We made our way to the mall to see the outdoor concert.  The main draw was our favourite Hawaiian swing band, (it may be the only Hawaiian swing band)Kahulanui.  We have seen them twice before but never with their horns.  This time all members were there and there performance did not disappoint.  There must have been at least a thousand people attending and they were all on their feet by the end of the performance.  It was a near full moon in the sky and a colourful sunset.  Pretty nice.

Tomorrow......the Super Bowl.  Mary plans to be at the Lava Lava Beach Club 3 hours before the
game to get a good seat!   Go, Hawks!
